In March, RefuAid delivered a morning of training for staff members from the university careers service at the University of Leicester. The training was designed to provide staff with context surrounding the situation for refugee and asylum seeker students. The morning covered current UK legislation, including who might have the right to work and who might not, in order to ensure that staff can provide accurate and useful advice.
Feedback from the careers service staff who undertook the training was very positive, with many saying that they now have more knowledge and confidence advising refugee and asylum seeking students at their university. This type of training is crucial for staff to be able to understand and engage with issues facing sanctuary seeking students.
